Like Bingo and Lotto, Keno is a game of luck and chance. There aren’t a lot of skills and strategies that people can use to improve their odds of winning at Keno. This is because the numbers that the computer chooses for Keno are selected by a Random Number Generator (RNG). And, since the RNG operates independently for each Keno round, it doesn’t work to use information from previous Keno games to plan for future games. There is no Keno strategy that will help a player improve his odds from game to game similar to how card counting can help a Blackjack player improve his odds from hand to hand.

But, there are a few things that players can do to make the game more enjoyable—and which some people do claim to help increase their winnings. While these aren’t guaranteed to help, they certainly can’t hurt.

Keno CardsKeno is one of the easiest casino games to learn. It is uncomplicated, and somewhat similar to playing Bingo or Lotto. There are a few different varieties, but those are not tricky or difficult to understand.

Objective
The objective of Keno is to guess which numbers the random number generator machine will choose. The more numbers a player guesses correctly, the higher the payout is for the player.

Game Play
The player selects between 1 and 15 numbers. Numbers must fall between 1 and 80, as those are the only numbers that could possibly be chosen by the machine. When the player selects a number, that number will turn a different color than the other numbers on the board to designate that the number is a chosen one. If players do not want to manually select their numbers, they can choose to have numbers randomly selected for them. Players can opt to deselect a number if they would like—as long as they do so before their turn has finished. The player also makes a bet. The screen will show the potential payout as more numbers are chosen—this will aid the player in deciding how many numbers to select and how much to bet.

Next, the computer randomly selects 20 numbers. After the computer has finished, the numbers are compared. The player scores a ‘hit’ for ever number of his that matches one of the computer’s numbers. The more ‘hits’ a player has, the higher his payout will be; however, his payout will also depend upon how much he has bet. A maximum bet will obviously bring a larger payout than a minimum bet.

Online Keno games are much faster-paced than games in land-based casinos. This is partly because players can opt to play a series of four or five games at a time.

Types of Keno Cards
Although most Keno games work just as described above, and most Keno cards are of the same type, many online game websites have been developing different types of Keno cards in order to give players different experiences with Keno. Online casinos have been trying special varieties of Keno cards in order to allow players to have better odds of winning and to keep players interested in the game.

Way Ticket: These tickets allow players to choose many sets when playing; therefore, they end up costing less money to play than regular tickets.

To win this jackpot, a player chooses 10 numbers. Then the computer selects 10 numbers. All 10 numbers must match in order for the player to win the entire jackpot.

Keno spread through Ancient China because ruler Cheung Leung needed to finance a war. He was aware of a mathematical game called “The White Pigeon Game” (due to the fact that white pigeons were used to deliver results from city to city). Leung began using this game to produce revenue for his war and it quickly became popular throughout China.

Some historians maintain that Leung called his game “Kino,” others state that he kept the name “The White Pigeon Game.” Regardless, his usage of this game resulted in the widespread popularity of the game. Funding from the game was also said to have been used to build the Great Wall of China.

When the game was first played, Keno tickets had 120 Chinese characters. Players would select 10 characters using an ink brush. This procedure led to the term “keno spots” that is used today.

In the 19th century, Chinese immigrants migrated to America to help build the trans-continental railroad. At this time, they brought the game of Keno with them—but, the game was called the “Chinese Lottery” among Americans at this time. As the game gained popularity, the name changed to “horse race keno” as a way of getting around the strict gambling laws in America at the time.

Eventually, the Chinese characters on the Keno tickets were changed to numbers and the number of characters was reduced from 120 to 80. This is the version of Keno that is played today, and it is quite popular around the world.

Game Play

Video Poker machines use a basic 5-card draw poker game. A player first inserts his coin(s) into the machine. He then pushes the deal button, after which 5 cards are dealt onto the screen.
There is a button located under each of the 5 cards. The player decides which of these cards he wants to hold, and presses the button under each of those cards. He then pushes the deal button a second time.

New cards are dealt to replace the cards that the player discarded. If the player had a hand that is good enough to score, the machine awards a payout.

General Tips

Players can opt to hold all 5 of their cards, if their first deal gives them a good enough hand for a payout.

Alternatively, players can opt to discard all 5 cards to get 5 new cards in the second deal.
